An EDI discussion with my grad peers

I am currently the graduate student representative for our equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) group in our department at the UofA. Here I talk with my peers in the department on ways that we can become ore inclusive and accommodating for our students and in academia in general. This is the first discussion I hosted earlier this month was on Disability in graduate school via this podcast https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0u8se-A99og&authuser=2 . I felt very connected to this topic, as I am dyslexic myself and I have recently been able to discuss my learning disability freely as well as figure out how to best accommodate for myself. Now that I have figured out what works, I cant believe I wasn't doing this before all throughout my undergrad! It was wild I am unsure how I made it this far without text to speech!

I had my peers listen to this podcast and when it came for the discussion I asked about some things that we, as TAs or professors, could do to help accommodate for students in our classrooms, as a lot of students do not have access to accommodations from the University due to time, cost, or other conflicts. I had a lot of fun coming up with questions and getting the conversation going with my peers about ways that we, as academics, can do more to promote a more accessible environment for students, peers, and staff with disabilities. I am always looking to learn more about these very important topics and finding resources is one of my favourite things to do! I am doing another discussion on another topic in a month so I will post an update then!
